Well they can't all be winners, can they?

Have you had your annual viewing of "Bad Santa" yet?  If not, you have one more day left to watch.  Possibly the funniest yet foulest Christmas movie ever, Bad Santa will make you laugh until you pee your pants.  Definitely not one for the kiddos but a hilarious take on Christmas.   If I ever get a dog, I am going to name it Thurman Murman..........

**A SMARTY tip
This is best done at the end of the season when only a few spots remain in the advent calendar.  Buy up some Halloween candy now while you can still find it in the stores!

Smarty's adventures continue.......

Sack race

Smarty came in first place at the 12th annual North Pole sack race!  He and his plush friends love to race around the house!

**SMARTY tip
Paper bags stand up much better if you put something in the bottom.  I used candy canes!

Smarty.......again and again......

Well, There are only a few days left of smarty and I am super glad.  I love making the scenes and photographing everything but I am running out of ideas!  I can't believe I've ended up with so many facebook "likes" for our crazy elf.  I think I'll make my kids a photo book so that they can remember everything.  Here's the post from yesterday, and the one from today...

Wow are you feeling out of time like me?  I just don't know how I'm going to get all of this done before Christmas!!

The Charlie Brown holiday special is one of my favorites.  I still haven't watched it yet this year but it is on my list of things to watch in the next 6 days.   LOVE that Charlie Brown!

Zip it!

Since there's no snow for sledding, Smarty decided to install a zipline in the house and test it out tonight.  Looks like fun.

Just Pin it!

I love Pinterest.  My cousin turned me on to it when it was just in Beta and you had to be invited to join.  She invited me and I actually loved it better then.  There was a lot more anonymity and I felt like I was in on some secret club that no one else knew about.  We would find things and then say "Did you see what I pinned today?"

I still love Pinterest, but my husband says he just doesn't get it.  What's the point he said of saving these random things in one spot.  THE POINT?  Are you kidding?  I described it to him as the equivalent of a woman's fantasy football team.  It's the team you wish you had but are never going to get.  This brain is sooooo full of everything else that needs to be done during the day that Pinterest is actually my oasis.  My dreamy cork board of things that I want to do, that I wish I could do, things I wish my house would look like........someday.  Do you want Tom Brady, Brandon Marshall, Heath Miller and Calvin Johnson on the same team?  Well I want a new bathroom, a super cool kitchen, crafts to keep the kids busy and a little fashion guidance.  Without dreams and projects and goals my life feels incomplete.

I'm happy to see that Smarty the Elf is getting the hang of it too.  Maybe he'll do something really cool for the kids on Christmas morning.

Please Pray

I am incredibly saddened by the violence in Newtown today.   I sobbed when I heard the news that it was a kindergarten class that was affected.  I volunteer in my own son's kindergarten class every Friday for his computer lab.  The children give me hugs and are so loving.  Last week a little boy lost his star because he was talking too much.  He cried and cried for his mom all because he had to change his card to red......I can't imagine those children.  I can't imagine those parents.  No matter your religion or your faith or your beliefs.  Please pray for those families.  That they have the strength to make it to tomorrow and the next day and the day after that.......

Smarty Boo Boo

I love reality TV......sometimes a little too much.  Between the Real Housewives and Million Dollar Decorators, my DVR is packed wtih unwatched episodes of chaos.  Honey Boo Boo is a complete train wreck kind of show and I absolutely LOVE it.  Smarty has been feeling really run down since he had the Elf flu so he met up with his friend Honey Boo Boo child this week and she showed him how to make some gogo juice.

Moves like Santa.......

That Smarty really knows how to rock.  Tonight he is auditioning for The Voice and two of the judges have already turned their chairs around.  Must be that awesome rendition of "Moves Like Santa" that he performed.  Looks like Smarty will be cruising through to the next round.

Overload!!

O-ver-load: (o-ver-lohd)
1. verb (used with object)  to load to excess; overburden
2. noun  an excessive load
3. reality a mom

Hey at least we had this much Halloween candy leftover.........I can't be doing that badly
Much like Smarty's sugar intake this morning, my life has been on overload lately.  I know that you can relate.  I normally work just 2 shifts per week at a local pharmacy.  It's high volume and high stress and non-freaking-stop for eight hours.  However, my manager is on medical leave and asked if I could pick up some extra shifts.  I'm not sure exactly why I said yes.  I guess I think it was to see if I still had "'it."  Most of the time my life is focused on getting the kids up and ready for school or getting them fed, bathed and ready for bed.  In between being their constant entertainment (mommmm, I'm bored....mommmm I'm thirsty.....mommmm play with me) and cooking, cleaning and laundering I'm totally feeling under-appreciated and like, well, a housewife.  Not exactly what I had in mind for myself during those 5 long years of college.  It's NOT that I feel like being a housewife is a terrible thing.  It's just that I miss the old me.  The one who was good at her job and the one who felt gratified by helping others and the one who was a better wife to a husband who works really hard so that I don't have to work 40 hours a week.  I really really miss the old me.  So I've worked a week and half of the extra shifts.  6 measly shifts, only 3 more than normal and I'm sick.  Like, almost have no voice sick.  Coughing and a heavy chest sick.  I had to call off today which I hate to do especially because my husband has the same job as I do and he works for the same company.   So who has to go in at 7am this morning when I'm sick?  My husband and he was less than pleased.  Not because I am sick or that he had to work this morning but because I am stubborn and I have overextended myself again.  As I lay here today coughing and wishing I wasn't sick I realized that at least for now THIS is my job.  This whole get the kids where they need to be (on time if possible) and get the laundry done and cook something that doesn't go in the microwave......this is the job that is the most important of all.  And right now I'm failing miserably.  The only thing it seems I've done right is to make everyone in my house miserable because mom is working so much.

In case any of you out there are overloaded as well, then band together with me and when you make your New Year's Resolutions, put "say no" at the top of your list.
Say no to the PTA lady on the phone.  No one can do it all.
Say no to the extra shifts at work.  It is impossible.
Say no to multiple playdates at your house.  It can't be done.
You are a good mom.  Keep it that way.

Elfluenza

Poor Smary has the elf flu.  What a miserable day.  He had to get a candy cane infusion and has a horrible headache.  Hopefully nurse Skipper will take great care of him and he can be back to the North Pole in no time.

Where do I fit in?

When the kids went to bed tonight, only the outline of the puzzle had been completed.....so the really cool part about this photo is not that Smarty is putting the puzzle together but that when they went to bed it was not put together at all.  Smarty certainly was a busy elf.

I actually enjoy putting puzzles together, espescially in the winter.  It allows me to disconnect from the "online world" and just spend time thinking about, well, nothing.  And just like a good book, the ocd in me wants to get it finished the very day that I start it.  The kids, however, will think it is elf magic at it's finest.  I fear that someday they are going to need some real hefty therapy due to Smarty's antics.  I think they actually like Smarty better than Santa :)

Hot in Cleveland

That's right, its hot in Cleveland.  Well, at least for this time of year.  Anyone who thinks global warming doesn't exist should venture back a few years when we had snow on the ground from November to May.   It's been so warm here that even the daffodils are confused.  Smarty, however, is very very sad because his winter buddy Frosty has melted into a big pile of water.  Don't worry Smarty, he'll come back again someday........

Air Hockey!!

Curious George is my son's most prized possession, he goes EVERYWHERE with us.  He has gone to kindergarten every single day with my son since the beginning of the year.  Hopefully he won't wake up in the middle of the night and see that George has escaped and is playing air hockey with his friend Smarty.  Someone in this house has got to get some shut-eye...........

Santa needs more reindeer!!

I really have to start planning things out better so that I am not trying to figure out Smarty's adventures at 10pm every night.  Apparently I need to read some more of those get organized boards on Pinterest so that I can get it together and make it to Christmas.  I've seen the pictures of Elves drawing mustaches and such, but I thought this was a little more in the holiday spirit.  Besides, Santa can always use more reindeer, right?

Ski school

Last night was a bad night for Smarty.  NO ONE would go to bed because it was not a school night.  By the time everyone was asleep I was dog tired and just wanted to go to bed.  I had a couple of ideas and then when I went to use them, they didn't quite work out.  So I made this on the fly.   Not exactly what I had in mind but what the hell, still 24 more days to redeem myself.
